ECISD Superintendent's Perspective

Dr. Mario H. Salinas
Superintendent of Schools
Dr. Mario H. Salinas began his tenure as Superintendent of Schools for the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District on February 16, 2021. ECISD serves more than 32,000 students at 43 campuses and stretches 945-square miles, making it one of the nation's biggest landmass school districts.

Most recently, Dr. Salinas served Edinburg CISD as the Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services. Under his leadership in this position, he managed all aspects of the district’s operations since 2005. He also supervised several departments, including health services, police, child nutrition, transportation, maintenance and operations, facilities, social services, athletics, and fine arts.

For over 30 years, Dr. Salinas has worked in various capacities for Edinburg CISD, including high school science teacher, head varsity basketball coach, assistant principal, and principal at Edinburg North High School for almost 10 years.

He received his bachelor's degree, master's degree in educational administration, and his doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Texas-Pan American.

Dr. Salinas has served on various boards, including the Edinburg Rising Stars Foundation, the Hidalgo County Head Start, Edinburg Boys and Girls Club, and the City of Edinburg 10-K Run. Dr. Salinas was also appointed to the Board of the Texas Workforce Investment Council (TWIC) by then former Texas Governor and President George W. Bush.

He and his wife, Ana, are the parents of two sons, Mario Antonio and Diego Nicolas.
